Program Overview

Now in its 12th year, the American String Teacher’s Association of New Jersey (ASTA/NJ) Chamber Music Institute is an intensive classical music camp focusing on chamber music performance.  Participants perform and rehearse under the guidance of outstanding teaching artist faculty. Students participate in daily rehearsals, master classes, elective courses, special presentations, and a variety of social activities. Each session features a concert and master class with a professional visiting artist ensemble and concludes with a performance featuring student ensembles. Students may audition to be placed in specially formed advanced ensembles; pre-formed ensembles are welcome.

The residential CMI program is open to students ages 12–23 who play violin, viola, cello, or double bass (or, as we like to think of it, the ASTA family of instruments). This year we have expanded enrollment to include brass, woodwind, piano, and classical guitar. A program for collegiate string players, including expert coaching in a specially-oriented chamber ensemble, is also available.

Whether you are an advanced chamber music player or a newcomer to the genre, ASTA/NJ CMI 2016 has much to offer in a fun, exciting environment.
