About the Chamber Music Institute
Now in its 14th year, the American String Teachers Association of New Jersey (ASTA/NJ) Chamber Music Institute is an intensive classical music camp focusing on chamber music performance. Participants perform and rehearse under the guidance of outstanding teaching artist faculty. Students participate in daily rehearsals, master classes, elective courses, special presentations, and a variety of social activities. Learn more.
- Students ages 12–23 may attend. (Exceptions by special permission of the Program Director).
- College students invited to attend as part of the CMI Collegiate Program.
- Instruments: string, woodwind, brass, piano, and classical guitar players invited to apply.

In the past guest artists have included the Shanghai Quartet, Borromeo Quartet, Colorado Quartet, Dalí Quartet, JACK Quartet, Daedalus Quartet, Catalyst Quartet, Voxare Quartet, Jade Trio, Kean Concert Artists, Trident, and the Attacca Quartet. All of these groups have their own websites, and maintain extraordinary lives as world-class performers, teachers, and recording artists!
The students at CMI have also been treated to special performance workshops given by the Shattered Glass Ensemble, Toomai Quintet, Martha Mooke (electric viola), Andy Wei-Yang Lin (erhu), Caryn Lin (electric violin), Yang Yi (guzheng), David Rimelis (fiddling and improvisation), Roland Hutchinson (consort of viols), Michael Lemma (consort of mandolins).
On November 22nd, 2015, The Mason Gross School of the Arts Extension Division and Music Department, in partnership with the American String Teachers Association of New Jersey (ASTA/NJ) is proud to present the 2015 ASTA/NJ String Symposium and All-State Workshop for teachers and students.
Students will have the opportunity to polish their All-State Audition selections by participating in workshops and mock auditions led by members of the Mason Gross Music Department. Teachers are invited to audit workshop sessions, join in an ASTA/NJ led panel discussion, and participate in a reading session. Luncheon for teachers is included in the registration fee.
It is $75 for teachers and adults participants, $40 for seniors (65+), and $25 for students. Parents of students may attend the event free of charge. Click on the flyer below for more information!
